I wrote a story a few weeks ago about White-nose syndrome, a fatal syndrome targeting bats. It was first discovered in New York in 2006 and has since spread to several other states.
My story focused on what researchers were doing to survey Ohio caves this year. At the time I wrote the story, Ohio bats had not been discovered with the symptoms. A week after my story ran, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources found infected bats. We ran a short follow-up.
Read my story for background on the syndrome. Visit ODNR for more on the current situation.
